South Africans Serving in Foreign Submarines

South Africans have a long and largely undocumented history of submarine service stretching back to the First World War — predating by decades the formal establishment of a South African Navy. This book by WO1 David Harrison is the first dedicated account of that service, covering South African officers and ratings who served in Royal Navy submarines and other nations' boats across both World Wars and beyond. It traces decorated South Africans in command of British submarines, men who gave their lives in boats not their own, and the full arc of a heritage that mainstream South African naval historiography has largely overlooked.
