The story of Able Seaman Just Nuisance — a Great Dane and the only dog ever officially enlisted in the Royal Navy. Based at HMS Afrikander in Simon's Town from 1939 to 1944, Just Nuisance became a legend for escorting sailors along the Cape Town railway line, rounding up drunken ratings for the last train home, and breaking up fights between matelots. He was promoted from Ordinary Seaman to Able Seaman, received official naval rations, and was buried with full military honours at Klaver Camp on Red Hill upon his death in April 1944. Long out of print, this 12th edition was republished by the Naval Heritage Trust with permission from the author's daughters. Author: Terence Sisson. Publisher: Naval Heritage Trust, Simon's Town.
